This will be the first Houston area show for the Los Angeles painter. These sixteen demurely-scaled paintings with thick luscious surfaces and jewel-like colors in concert with almost comically biomorphic forms will seduce sophisticated viewers and visual art neophytes equally. The only play of “is it a flower or a sex organ” - is given new life in these painted innuendos.
About The Artist
J Bradley Greer was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca. After attending Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, and Parsons School of Design in Paris, Greer received his BFA, and shortly thereafter relocated to New York City. In 1990 Greer had his first solo exhibition at White Columns. Throughout his 15 years in New York, Greer continued to participate in exhibitions while also working as an artist’s assistant, including work for Jeff Koons on his paintings for the Celebration series – a great experience, until he was fired for applying paint too thickly on “Cake”. After returning to Los Angeles, Greer continued exhibiting while simultaneously embarking on a path as an art educator, and currently teaches art to middle and high school students in LAUSD. The past 2 years have been a fertile and transformational period for Greer’s art, and several of these recent works are featured in ‘Textural Innuendo’, Greer’s first solo exhibition at Bill Arning Exhibitions in Houston, Texas.
