Arning began writing criticism in the 1980s and continues to share his insights into contemporary art and artists in magazines, museum publications, monographs and websites.
Bill Arning is a contributor to the forthcoming monograph, Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art: Art on Campus (1990-2020), devoted to insightful essays analyzing roughly 200 (from almost 2,000) works in the Nerman Museum & Johnson County Community College collection. Arning composed over 30 entries for this collection focus, bringing knowledge & imagination to his discussion of works by a broad range of artists, from the abstractions of Joanne Greenbaum to the figuration of Chicago Imagist Robert Lostutter. A early fall 2020 publication date for this major tome is anticipated.
